It’s Thanksgiving Day, 2014 – first time in 20+ years that I am not cooking a big feast and a 20+ lb turkey. This year has truly brought me lots of tears and fears but also lots of joy, clarity, courage and wins! I have forged new relationships and nurtured old ones. Relationships take a lot of work and it starts with this very critical piece – SELF-LOVE.
I am coming from a very confident, content and grateful place right now but it wasn’t long ago when I felt incapable, insecure and highly dependent on others to bring me joy and validation. As human beings we are here on this earth to feel as though we belong, so we seek an environment to thrive, to be nurtured, to be cherished. Anything that threatens that is not worthy of compromise even if that means not taking care of the one who matters the most, YOU. I have worked with many clients who are going through life and career transitions or business growth challenges and they share a common story. The success and happiness of their loved ones meant so much more than their desire for their own success and happiness. While that may sound noble and a representation of unconditional love, nothing could be farther from the truth.
I grew up being told, “It’s better to give than to receive.” I still believe that to this day… BUT, here’s the irony of that statement, how in the world can you give something you don’t have in the first place?”
How many parents have you heard say, “I am working hard, taking precious time away from you because this is for your future.” Tell that to a child who doesn’t understand and is craving that parent’s love NOW, not in the future.
If you’re a parent, how many times did you find yourself feeling unappreciated because you gave so much to your children and you really believed you were doing it for them and not for you?” Really, ask yourself, if you were doing it for them, does it really matter if they show appreciation or not? Expecting appreciation is a pat on our ego and is not a result of unconditional giving. Every time we expect others to behave and act a certain way, we are gearing up ourselves for disappointment because like Don Miguel Ruiz said in his book, The Four Agreements, “Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.”
When we love ourselves, there is no need for people pleasing. There is no need for validation. We do the things we do for the sheer enjoyment of loving and serving others. Having unrealistic expectations from others is a proverbial emotional trap. It’s the seat of all disappointments, anger, resentment and regret.
My 12-year old son already knew this at a very young age. Today he wrote this on his Instagram Post:
“Take the time to feel the earth to look within. When you make friends with yourself, you will never be alone. We should always be thankful for everything we have. Take a moment to contemplate what you are thankful for. Because truly this is the meaning of Thanksgiving…” – Garrett Tiebens
If you’re not used to loving yourself, it will take time but you will also enjoy the journey of rediscovering who you really are. As you seek, you shall find… It may take a bit longer for you to feel a tangible result but just that decision to do something about your new found awareness will give you a surge of inexplicable empowerment. It’s a very powerful experience and you will know it when you see people who haven’t seen you for years and they tell you, “Wow, you are bolder and happier than the last time we saw each other!”
How can you practice Self-Love daily? Simple – it starts with awareness and a commitment that you will be cognizant when you’re not loving yourself, particularly when you:
1) Get mad at yourself for failing to do things perfectly, for not saying the right things and when you fail to please people you so desperately want to please.
2) Don’t listen to your body, when you’re feeling really tired but you have to finish more tasks for other people.
3) Add more things to your to do list and that that list doesn’t include pampering yourself by getting a manicure, pedicure, facial or a massage.
4) Entertain nagging thoughts and worry in your head, that creates sleepless nights.
5) Get so stressed and so jumpy that you raise your voice to people around you without really meaning to.
6) Skip deep breathing, meditation and prayer to ground and center you and oxygenate your brain and the trillions of cells in your body, in order to take care of somebody else.
7) Expecting expressions of appreciation and gratitude from others whom you have served and helped.
8) Wallow in self-pity for something someone has done to you.
9) Hang on to the memory of hurtful resentment for offenses done to you in the past.
10) Regretting time lost for not having done things that you should have.
Awareness takes commitment that is seasoned with time. It starts with the commitment that you will do something each day to nurture your mind, your body and your spirit and you are going to LET GO of negative emotions, feelings and people that no longer serve you. That your joy is more important than anything or anyone else’s. You’re going to take time to walk barefoot on the grass, listen to more music, dance, move and connect with more people offline – face to face. There is a beautiful exchange of energy when you do that.
With the onset of social media, we all have become the media! We all have the ability to create our own platforms and our own brands. Whether you know it or not, if you are not consciously creating your own brand presence, other people will create it for you. They will always have a perception of you so you might as well make your brand presence, “Magnetic Memorable and TRUSTED” as that is a the basic foundation on how you will monetize your products, systems or service.
If you’ve been reading my blogs and social media content for the past 6 years now, you will notice that I rarely post about how disappointed or angry I was about someone or something. It was a choice I made early on that I was going to use social media as an expression for any of these 3 I’s:
In one way or another, you and I have shared in each others’ lives virtually or in person – through social media, through my thousands of videos, blog posts, social media posts, articles and TV, radio and magazine interviews. We are definitely connected and I am absolutely grateful for your presence in my life, which in itself is a present… a gift…
If you’ve read this far, this message is meant for you! I am amazed that this is already my 7th year in and around social media and through the years, I have truly connected with the most amazing people in the world who have truly transformed my life in so many ways and that includes YOU! Have a beautiful and blessed Thanksgiving… Praying heaps of blessings to you and your families, now and always… Having an intimate, simple, low-key but very special Thanksgiving at home (but not without Champagne and Chambord! LOL!) So how are you spending today? Please Comment, Like, Subscribe and Share! Much LOVE and Virtual HUGS!

Recently I re-introduced and integrated my Bella Gemma Jewelry into my Inspirational Speaking and Life and Business Coaching.
Now more than ever, I am compelled to INSPIRE and SERVE with my knowledge and passion about our Divine Connection with gemstones, pearls and crystals. Having lost and mourned 3 pregnancies myself, when they approached me for donation, I had this idea to create 100 pairs of pearl earrings which I personally made and decided to gift them to these mothers who have also lost their children. This is a story of connection that to this day intensifies my purpose… SUCCESS with SIGNIFICANCE and of SERVICE… When you do things boldly and from the heart, you really don’t know whose lives you get to touch in the moment…
Here’s an inspiring and heartwarming letter which explains why I named this highly versatile pair of pearl earrings as “Peggy’s Pearls”…
Greetings Dear Emma,
Recently, I attended the “Journey of the Heart” Conference in Palm Springs offered by Umbrella Ministries. This is their 8th annual event and the 5th that I have attended. Always, it’s a blessing and I go home refreshed and uplifted.
On Sunday morning each Mother was given your gift of the beautiful pearl earrings. Thank you so much for your generosity. Daisy Catchings explained how she had contacted your company about purchasing a set for each Mother, and how you offered them as a gift to us. What a thoughtful and caring gesture on your part.
My daughter Peggy Ann died in 1984 when she was only 24 years of age. She LOVED pearls and wore them a lot, although she never owned any ‘real’ pearl earrings. When her Father and I married I had a simple pearl choker (remember those?) that I wore at our wedding. When our oldest daughter Vickie married, I had that choker necklace made into two separate strands for my other two girls to wear in her wedding. Peggy had one and Donna had the other. When Peggy was killed I decided not to let her wear the necklace as she would not need it in Heaven anyway, and I gave hers to Vickie. A few times over the years, I have wished I had of let her wear it. Then, God quickly reminds me that Peggy has more jewels in Heaven than she can ever possibly wear!
Peggy was our Pearl………and we always called her that as she was our youngest daughter. When I received your gift of pearls, I was so touched that someone who doesn’t even know me, never knew my beautiful daughter would give me such a beautiful gift of compassion, and never even think of getting a thank you card! In today’s ‘all about me’ world, it’s unheard of. Someone once said ‘Coincidences are little taps on the shoulder from God.’ I believe it’s true that there are ‘no coincidences!’ When I saw those beautiful pearl eardrops, it was as if Peggy’s brown eyes sparkled again to remind me……….”I Love You, Mom.”
I am not familiar with your jewelry line and must admit I have never heard of BellaGemma Jewels before the Retreat. However, I do know that the Owner of the Company is a Jewel, and a very Rare one in the business world of today. My prayer is that you and your company will be blessed with Prosperity beyond your wildest imaginings. You have truly blessed me and I will treasure these pearls forever. It was just a lovely reminder on that Sunday morning that Peggy, my own Pearl, is forever with me in my heart.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Have you ever felt as though you were being swept off your feet and a big, beautiful and vibrant energy is just effortless bringing you invaluable opportunities, resources and relationships? Such was the case for me these past 2 months. The word hectic is truly an understatement!
Despite being “in the flow”, I found myself feeling some resistance. September is my birth month and this year’s birthday was very significant for so many reasons. First of all, I have a confession to make. It was challenging for me to admit to myself that I was going to be 50 years old. I wanted to “hide” it and not tell people that I am turning 50. It was a very odd feeling… One that I didn’t feel in any of my milestone birthdays – 20, 30 or 40. I embraced those birthdays and celebrated for months with joyous anticipation and appreciation!
I received almost 1,000 of birthday well-wishing in and around social media. In the years past, I would respond to all of them with a personal comment but this time, I could only click on “Like” as an implied “Thank You”…
The days preceding my birthday were quite challenging as well but this is a happy post so we will save the details of why those days were challenging in another blog post. I really felt like a caterpillar being forced into a metamorphosis, knowing full well that breaking through my cocoon was absolutely necessary for me to be able to grow my wings and soar even higher! My cocoon was safe and warm but was also vulnerable and susceptible to the dangers of being hurt and devastated. I did a lot of spiritual and mental work to help me come to terms with the inevitable arrival of this Big 50. For some reason, the number 50 felt as though I was half-way through my life.
It was around this time when I found myself letting go of many things. Reasons, relationships and resources that no longer serve the purpose and path I have been put on this earth to live. It was a time of purging, cleansing and strengthening. A time to shed mediocrity and become more selective of the reality I choose to live in a moment by moment basis.
It was a time when I started looking through my relationships of people I absolutely love and trust, who truly appreciate – not just tolerate – my presence in their lives and vice-versa. A dear, dear friend who has truly been with me through the highest highs and the lowest lows, is my friend Kathleen Ronald, Founder of www.Speaktacular.com. Kathleen and I met each other at a weekend conference in Los Angeles in 2006 and the rest is history. We’ve remained friends since!
Around the time of my birthday, Kathleen was organizing a Painting Party in Malibu, CA at the Wright Estate, led by Master Artist, Mary Wright. Kathleen suggested that since it’s a celebration of beauty, life, art and women, it would be the perfect time to also celebrate my birthday! It was a no brainer! I was absolutely honored and thrilled! For this celebration, she left no stone unturned – her attention to detail was impeccable! Her generous heart just couldn’t stop thinking of ways to make me feel special.
Many challenges arose right before my party – personal issues and car issues. At the very last minute, I was told I couldn’t drive my car to Malibu with 7 people without changing my tires as we are also bringing beach chairs and coolers, etc. I was borderline the legal limit for tread wear level. My battery needed changing too. I didn’t have time for all of these the day before my party. So on the day of my party, I had a friend drop me off at John Wayne Airport to rent an SUV. The series of events were almost comical as my friends who were there could attest to… My friends, Iris McCammon, Raziel Arcega, Michelle Rapaport, LaNelle Schwab my Mom Elena Yambao and my son Garrett Tiebens. We really didn’t think we would make it up the mountain in time for the Painting Party to begin, but we did!
Despite all the hurdles, once we got there, all the worries all melted away. What a gorgeous place! A true slice of heaven! Best of all, I got to see Ms. Mary Wright again! Surprisingly, she was one of my VIP Clients at a Malibu bank in the early 90s and now, 20 years later, not only did I get to see her again, I was able to spend my special day with her and learn to paint from her! Wow! This was the first time I took a shot at painting and discovered, it truly isn’t one of my gifts! LOL!
This place was so idyllic and was the perfect venue for inspired creativity. I’ve never seen so many talented women in one place! I was in awe of each and every one of them! Their paintings were absolutely beautiful! Best of all, I was surrounded by friends and family I absolutely love and adore! it was a very safe place and whatever you create is perfect. There was no judgment.
It was so cool to see even my Mom Elena Yambao picking up a brush for the first time at 82 years young! She really enjoyed the experience!
The birthday celebration began right as the Painting Party finished and the sun was almost setting. We also celebrated all the other September babies, including my dear friend LaNelle Schwab.
LaNelle was the one who so generously and thoughtfully designed this birthday cake for me and also brought food to feed an entire village and the amazing Debbie J. Nodelman provided us with the most delicious water I’ve ever tasted, called TruAlka – available at www.TheWaterLoft.com!
And the surprise of all surprises, one my dearest friends, someone I look up to with such adoration – the ever effervescent and loving Founder of 4 G Branding and www.RuthKlein.com – Ruth Klein, drove up to the ranch just to see me and bring me such a delicious gift of petit fours and chocolate truffles and drove back down. I was absolutely touched seeing her, I couldn’t stop the tears!
As we sipped our champagne and soaked in the beautiful glow of sunset right inside the Wright House designed by the descendants of Frank Lloyd Wright himself, I just sat there, surrounded by people I love and care about, I walked out towards land’s edge and said a prayer of intense gratitude for all that I have and all that I am in that now moment. There was an overwhelming surge of confidence that enveloped me and I was able to lovingly say to myself, “Happy Birthday, Emma… You’ve come a long way and there’s so much more in store ahead! The best is yet to come!”
As the moon started rising higher in the sky and we were about to say good-bye to each other and head down from the mountain, I received this insight that was very loud and clear… I raised my champagne glass and uttered to myself;
“HERE’S TO BREAKTHROUGHS, BOLDNESS AND NEW BEGINNINGS FOR THE NEXT DECADE OF MY LIFE!”
Now more than ever, I am excited to guide, teach, empower and equip entrepreneurs, executives, educators and experts to live a life of SUCCESS with SIGNFICANCE. As I coach more people, it’s becoming very clear that not everybody is looking for just the money. Money is necessary for a life of choices but one thing that people are needing now, which is as important as money, is MEANING. All of you my dearest friends give my life meaning – thank you too all of you! I love you all! (Left to Right – Garrett, Me, Kathleen Ronald, Mom Elena Yambao, Michelle Rapaport, LaNelle Schwab. Seated L-R – Iris McCammon, Raziel Arcega) Thank you Raziel for capturing these wonderful pictures, Michelle for driving on the way back and Iris for your continued emotional support.
While I love being an Author, Speaker, Coach and Brand Marketing Strategist, one area of my life that I am truly proud of which has given my life the most profound meaning is being a Mom… Garrett truly is the best gift I could ever ask for especially after having 3 failed pregnancies. Seeing him reminds me so much of God’s love fully expressed!

My 12-year old son Garrett Tiebens started middle school at a new school, and during that weekend he told me, “Mom I want to run for 7th Grade Senator for the Associate Students Board ASB. I said, “Great! Let’s go for it! How long do we have to create a banner and a poster?” He said “Two days…”
Argh!!! I wanted to protest and say no way but I was sooo proud of his initiative that I couldn’t and will not be the one to snuff out his fire so I told him, “Son, we will make this happen!”
I have never done anything like this. I don’t really know what messages children his age will relate with so the research began.. Then the speech.. Then the banner design followed by the poster. We had our “VIP Session” where we brainstormed and he answered the usual questions:
Question #1: What do kids your age like to hear – are they into serious stuff or lighter stuff? We initially thought of addressing the issue of not wearing masks and that Garrett is there to be your advocate to make sure there is harmony in school. We made some calls and asked our friends at Excel 360 where Garrett goes for after school studies and from their experience, they recommended that we make it funny and light.
Question #2: What are the schools guidelines regarding campaigns? Would they allow you to give out promotional products? The answer was no.
Question #3: What do other school election banners typically look like? We did a Google search on how banners are laid out.
Question #4: What are the most common taglines that candidates used? The used very short slogans that rhymed and were easy to remember.
So we sat down, discussed our options then solidified our message and we were determined to put these ideas onto a poster or a banner. Armed with this very short but powerful research, we decided to go for it and went to the Arts and Crafts department at Walmart to get poster boards, stencils, decals, markers, etc. Mind you, this was in between client appointments and coaching obligations. Our shopping cart was starting to fill-up, when I started thinking, “There is no way I can finish this in time… ” Honestly though, the thought of creating a banner and poster from scratch was very daunting! I just knew there must be a better way…
And there sure was!
I knew I can design images and font on a very old and simple program on my PC called Photodraw… It’s not Photoshop but it does the job beautifully! Then I researched overnight poster printers and discovered that Staples offers quick turn-around on poster and banner printing. At midnight, I designed the banner, uploaded the file to Staples’ website and the next morning it was ready! When Garrett saw it, he was soooo excited! It turned out beautifully! Here he is beaming with pride for his banner! The best part is the biggest hug I received from him and his words, “Mom, you really are the best! Thank you for making this happen…” To me, that’s the best reward ever!
Yes, we know we could have done better with the slogan… “Don’t Be A Carrot” doesn’t mean anything.. it’s really vague and makes one wonder? What??? Why would they use that? It doesn’t make any sense, right? Well, we did add another slogan before that, that does mean something, “Don’t Be A Fool, Be Cool For School…” That’s Garrett’s real message.
So, Garrett came home that day, thrilled with the response he has received! He said the teachers and students LOVED his banner and it’s the only one of its kind. The message may not be as “meaningful” but it sticks and people remember it! He said the kids started cheering him on and saying, “Garrett we will vote for you!” The children were repeating, “Be Cool for School”, and “Don’t Be A Carrot”! It became a conversation piece for everyone! Sure there were a handful of students who told him, “Seriously, couldn’t you think of something better?” His simple response was, “Not really… I didn’t need to… I think it’s cool… do you have a better suggestion?” None of them could come up with anything… We just knew that what we created was something quite effective. It built a momentum of its own. Here are the banners and posters as displayed in their multipurpose room:
Election was a week after the banners were hung, which was that Friday but on Monday morning, all candidates had to deliver a 1-minute speech on video which will be shown simultaneously in all the classrooms before the actual elections around school dismissal in the afternoon. Garrett’s speech was basically an extension of what he has already said on his banner and posters, but now the students actually saw and heard him saying it which game them a feel of who this person really is. Garrett said his entire class roared with pride and cheered him on after they watched the video!
So, at school pick-up, as I was sitting in my car waiting for them to get out, I heard on the loud PA System, “Okay… we’re ready to announce the winners of today’s elections… For ASB Senator – GARRETT TIEBENS!” I was sooo happy, I shed tears of joy.. I just knew what this meant for my son and his desire to serve and empower other children. I just know that this goes beyond him having the title of Senator… This proves to him once again that HIS MESSAGE MATTERS… that HE MATTERS and that he has a mission to empower other to be the same. As the other students walked to their parents’ / guardians’ cars that day, I still hear them talking about, “That’s so cool the “Carrot Boy” won! He seems really nice… ”
Here is a picture of a grateful and happy son with his very proud mother!
The moral of this story? When you make a decision and you say yes, the momentum starts taking shape and you just never know where it will take you! You cannot steer a parked car! Keep saying yes to more things… Take more risks… you may fail but knowing that you gave it your best shot will get you more comfortable in taking more risks while tapping into your inner strength and leveraging your mastery. And that my dear friends is the true secret to success!
If a 12-year old child can give himself that experience, how much more can you achieve?
Be BOLD, Go For A BREAKTHROUGH, Set New BEGINNINGS!
